INDUSTRY ACTION AND STRIKE IN THE CARREFOUR GROUP
The 29th of December it was understood that it would’ve been impossible to reach an agreement for the renewal of the company level contract (Contratto Integrativo d’Azienda) in the Carrefour Group.
After an initial negotiation that showed critical points but also some space for a possible agreement, the meetings of 28-29th December demonstrated that the distances were not acceptable.
VARIABLE PRODUCTIVITY BONUS
Company: Suspension of the bonus for the 2010-2011 period. No automatic re-enforcement at expiry.
Union: Safeguard of the bonus and suspension for a 12 month period (year 2010) with a possible extension for a short time period so to elaborate new parameters for variable productivity bonus;
FIXED UNIFIED COMPANY BONUS (PAFU)
Company: Suspension of maturity for the 2010-11 period. Non automatic re-enforcement at expiry of two year period.
Union: Safeguard of PAFU for everyone and willingness towards a suspension of maturity for 12 months, with a verification at the end of 2010.
OVERTIME FOR SUNDAY WORK DURING HOLIDAYS
Company: elimination of the 230% premium rate, present in some structures; acknowledgement of the 130% premium rate during the christmas period to those that already benefit from this rate, and enforcement of the National Collective Labor Contract (30%) during all remaining Sundays of the year.
Union: Willingness to reduce the 230% rate on a yearly basis derived from previous negotiations in some structures if the 130% rate is extended during the christmas period to all workers and a unifying economic treatment is created for all workers regarding non christmas period Sundays. In addition to the economic acknowledgment, construction of conditions and organization of Sunday work in shops.
To these fundamental points we must add the other requests by the company:
Remove the yearly additional payed permits derived from negotiation with GS for all GS workers and in residence workers.
Eliminate the existing territorial agreements regarding work organization so to be “free” to apply the necessary flexibility needed by the company ( assignment of homogeneous tasks[fungibilità], part-time, Sunday work, etc.).
Partially and generically accept some of the requests contained in the Claims and in particular advanced payment of TFR (end of relation treatment) and the increase of the confirmation in service percentage for apprentice workers.
The achievement of these objectives by the company would have allowed the maintenance of the PAYED PAUSE (in addition to sickness/injury treatments which were not discussed).
WE WERE NOT FACING THE POSSIBILITY TO REACH A NEW CONTRACT, BUT THAT OF AGREEING ON A GHOST CONTRACT
THE FREEZING OF SINGLE STRUCTURES, RESULTED IN A SACRIFICE BEING REQUESTED TO THE WORKERS WHICH HAD NO DIGNIFIED COMPENSATION
IN ADDITION TO THE ECONOMIC SACRIFICE THE COMPANY HAS DECIDED TO DEPRIVE OF MEANING UNION RELATIONS IN ORDER TO AVOID DISCUSSION AND AGREEMENTS REGARDING IMPORTANT AND QUALIFYING ISSUES SUCH AS WORK ORGANIZATION
WHAT ELSE CAN BE DEMANDED TO CARREFOUR WORKERS??
There is no exchange and no balance in a negotiation where not even the sense of responsibility shown by Union Organizations was considered enough!!
AGAINST THE POSITION AND RIGIDITY OF CARREFOUR
TOWARDS THE RENEWAL OF THE COMPANY LEVEL CONTRACT
The Union Organizations announce starting from today 30th December 2009 the state of industrial action in all the Carrefour Group and a 8 hour strike (a whole shift) to be enacted within the 9th of January 2010, with modalities decided by territorial structures and local union representatives (RSA/RSU).
